Recent Work: Veterans March at Standing Rock #NODAPL
The wood smoke, the chow lines, the reverence of the "water protectors" and the rapture of the pilgrims that had come to the camp from every compass point, these are constants at Standing Rock. So to is the daily "Prayer Walk." Every day they would set out from the main camp walking the three miles up Rt 1806 to the "Front Lines." Front Lines, it's what they called the site where Energy Transfer Partners had bulldozed sacred burial sites and had brought in private security forces with dogs that they unleashed on those who were at the site to protest the pipeline project.
On this morning a call was put out for all the military veterans in the camp to come forward and lead the daily march to the Front Line. Once again, as they had in the past, in places like Viet Nam and the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq they answered the call.
